Femmenell is a journey between the sacred and the profane in which the Femminielli, an ancient Neapolitan non-binary population, fight for their survival against the march of time and a modernity that seems able to do without them. An integral part of the social fabric in which they live, the Femminielli depend on that society because only within it can they express themselves freely. Furthermore, they often act as a spiritual and religious point of reference for the community.

The spontaneity of the Femminielli characters is reflected by camera techniques used throughout the documentary which lend a surreal tone and a pervading sense of truth which highlights a colorful and lively Naples, characterised by the ability to create community.
