Autumn Ahn
Artist in Residence
Autumn Ahn is a visual artist working across drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. She develops her work from the premise that “form produces time”. Using a vocabulary of grids, armatures, ink, paper, wire, and intervention, she engages landscape as a literal terrain and a sensory field that discloses the consciousness within physical reality. Her approach to materials and mark-making is informed by the structural qualities of each and their place in cultural histories. Ahn will focus her time in Spoleto on producing studies from the landscape. She says, “The work will make use of natural forces such as the wind, sunlight, and temperature.”
An American artist of Korean ancestry, Ahn (b.Philadelphia, PA) lives and works in the Berkshires region of Massachusetts, USA. Her practice embodies an ongoing exchange between Eastern and Western lineages of avant-garde gesture and pictorial thinking.
Her ongoing site-specific performance-lecture series, ‘line: edge self horizon’, was commissioned in 2026 by the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark.
Ahn holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a BFA from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. She was Visiting Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University and Visiting Artist at Bard College. Ahn is the recipient of grants from Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Rauschenberg Foundation. She has been supported by the Cittadellarte-Pistoletto Foundation, Headlands Center for the Arts, Studios at MASS MoCA, Le Magasin – Centre National d’Art Contemporain (CNAC), Grenoble; Selebe Yoon Gallery, Dakar; Cinema Tonalá; The Chimney, New York.
Her most recent solo shows include, ‘no sun’ at Anthony Greaney Gallery, and ‘on the genealogy of forms’ at lower_cavity.
