Norman Kleeblatt is a writer, consultant, and recent president and active board member of the International Association of Art Critics, US chapter. He is the former Chief Curator at the Jewish Museum in New York (2004-2017) and is an active writer for art publications of various stripes, including museum catalogues and artist monographs. He is a frequent contributor to the monthly journal The Brooklyn Rail.

As long-term curator at the Jewish Museum, Kleeblatt is noted for a series of exhibitions that merge art and historical narrative. This trajectory of shows for the Jewish Museum includes The Dreyfus Affair: Art, Truth, and Justice (1987-88), Painting a Place in America: Jewish Artists in New York 1900-1945 (1991), Too Jewish: Challenging Traditional Identites (1996), An Expressionist in Paris: The Painitngs of Chaim Soutine (1998-with Kenneth E. Silver), Action/Abstraction; Pollock, De Kooning and American Art 1940-1976 (2008), and From the Margins: Lee Krasner/ Norman Lewis 1945-1952 (2014).

Kleeblatt realises that despite his coincidental landing at the Jewish Museum, his projects, be they acquisitions, exhibitions, or programming, have always reflected his personal biography as a gay man who is the child of German refugees from Nazi Europe. His new project is to bring into focus specific life events that are evident in the collision of the personal and professional, full of coincidence and contradiction.
