Former filmmaker in residence at the Mahler & LeWitt Studios in 2021, Alessandro Cicoria presents STUDIOLI TV, 2018-2020, his experimental art documentary film trilogy recently acquired by Museo MACRO in Rome. The trilogy documents, in a dreamlike and dystopian key, the project space run by Cicoria in Rome called Studioli. After the screening Cicoria will be in conversation with Luca Lo Pinto (Director, MACRO) and presents rushes from a new film, ARCADIA NORD, shot partly in Spoleto during his residency (see artist’s page).

Alessandro Cicoria (Giulianova, 1980, vive a Roma) Working across film, photography, sculpture and drawing, Alessandro Cicoria explores the ability of art to capture time, tell stories and manipulate perception. His drawing and sculpture installations often employ complex photographic techniques and are exercises in recording and rereading visual and acoustic phenomena. As a photographer and film-maker, his works aim to question the role of the artist in society today, combining biographical and archival material with fantasy and fiction – for example, in his recent publication CICORIA: a brief account of Alessandro Cicoria’s life and work, published by NERO Editions, and in his video trilogy STUDIOLI TV. Recent exhibitions include: RETROFUTURO, Museo Macro, Roma; FEUILLETON, Edicola, Spoleto and MACRO Roma; INSIEME, Mura Aureliane, Roma; BLOW UP, Laure Genillard Gallery, Londra; GALLERY, GALERIE, GALERIA, Jack Barret Gallery, New York; OLIMPICA, Madonna del Pozzo, Spoleto; CRETA SOUND SYSTEM, New Low, Los Angeles; CICORIA, Vin Vin Gallery, Vienna; ARCHEOLOGI, Villa Lontana, Roma; CINQUE MOSTRE – THE TESSERACT, American Academy in Rome. Cicoria founded Studioli in Rome with Valerie Giampietro in 2015 inside a garçonnière complex dating from the 70s.

Luca Lo Pinto (b. 1981), is the artistic director of MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome. From 2014 till 2019 he worked as curator of Kunsthalle Wien. He is co-founder of the magazine and publishing house NERO. He produced a range of solo exhibitions with artists including Simone Forti, Nathalie du Pasquier, Jason Dodge, Tony Cokes, Camille Henrot, Olaf Nicolai, Pierre Bismuth, Babette Mangolte,  Lawrence Weiner, Gelatin&Liam Gillick, Charlemagne Palestine as well as publications with Emilio Prini, Mario Garcia Torres and Mario Diacono.Other curatorial projects include Io, Luca Vitone (PAC, Milan),16th Art Quadriennale (Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome), Le Regole del Gioco (Achille Castiglioni Studio-Museum, Milan); Trapped in the closet (Carnegie Library/FRAC Champagne Ardenne, Reims), Antigrazioso (Palais de Toyko, Paris); AnderSennoSogno (H.C. Andersen Museum, Rome); D’après Giorgio (Giorgio de Chirico Foundation, Rome); Conversation Pieces (Mario Praz Museum, Rome). His essays have been published in many catalogues and international magazines. In 2012 he edited the book Documenta 1955-2012. The endless story of two lovers.
